R & D Technician 2 (TPH3192)

Pay Range: $23.50 - $36.16 (Actual base pay based on factors such as relevant experience, education, market, qualifications, and skills)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Research and Development Technician 2 works under moderate supervision to perform functions associated with R&D and/or production and engineering activities. Uses a variety of programs and machines to collect and evaluate operating data to conduct on-line adjustments to pre-production processes, instruments, or equipment. Works with engineers to build testing equipment and in conducting experiments on a variety of work, which is generally new or unstructured in nature.

REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma required, AS preferred
4 years of related manufacturing Tech experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to use complex measuring equipment including microscope, caliper, micrometer etc.
May require ability to use complex laboratory equipment i.e. SEM/EDS, Auger, TGA/DSC, Acoustic Imaging System and Dilatometer etc.
Ability to read, write and comprehend verbal and written instructions in English.
Skill in applying statistics.
Skill in reading mechanical drawings
Willingness to wear finger cots, masks, and/or cleanroom apparel.
Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods daily
Ability to grab small parts or hand tools with hands.
Ability to lift and carry up to 35lbs.
Eligible to work in an ITAR environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs setup and troubleshooting of various equipment. May be asked to evaluate new set up or procure workspace.
  2. Prepares and runs samples for testing. May build test set up and document results.
  3. May run engineering tests prescribed by engineer and provide results. May report on results using excel, charts, or tracking software determined by the process owner.
  4. May write or support data collection for failure analysis reports or other reports as assigned by R and D engineers.
  5. Will visually inspect parts at required steps in the process with attention to detail, ensuring the parts are within specified tolerances. May disposition or reject parts.
  6. Will use measuring devices or test equipment often. May create tools such as fixture or go/ no go gauges. Provide feedback to engineers or process owners on improvements or steps in new processes.
  7. Participates in the 5S and safety programs and may be asked to implement suggestions from shop floor.
  8. Complies with applicable requirements of Kyocera International, Inc. policy, ISO 9000, ISO 14001 requirements, ITAR regulations.
  9. May read specifications and mechanical drawings and may fabricate parts or tools.
  10. May track or order raw materials and fabricate or recommend process for prototype builds with limited or little instruction.
  11. May create instruction sheets, training materials, presentations, or reports to share process information with peers. strong verbal and written communication skills and technical data is needed.
  12. Support a variety of engineering activities with limited structure or instructions.
  13. May train other less experienced workers.
