Job Description:
This position is a part- time, grant funded position in the Office of Accommodative Services.The Technology Specialist is responsible for providing technology solutions for students with disabilities and accessibility of print materials, including screen readers, voice recognition, screen magnification and/or closed captioning software.

A key function of this role is researching, problem solving, implementing and maintaining solutions to ensure students with disabilities have access to DCC's website, learning management system and course materials. The Technology Specialist provides training to student employees recruited to assist with delivery of services. In addition, the Technology Specialist participates in DCC's digital accessibility initiatives by conducting accessibility checks, remediating inaccessible documents and providing resources for professional development of campus community.

The position plays a role in promoting accessibility awareness through networking, training, and collaboration with others in the campus community.

  • Provide evaluation, support, and training (group or one-on-one) to students with disabilities in the use of assistive technology (AT) and strategies for effective utilization.
  • Oversee and maintain the college's inventory of adaptive/assistive technology devices, track and ensure return of equipment loaned to students.
  • Collaborate with OAS staff and individual students to determine appropriate technology-based accessibility solutions.
  • Provide instruction to students on computer literacy skills, navigation of the learning management system and basic features of MS Outlook, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Oversee the production of alternate media and assist with the conversion of textbooks/materials into alternative formats as needed.
  • Train student workers in the procurement /production of accessible digital materials.
  • Teach student trainers to use assistive technology software and devices.
  • Keep abreast of new products, technologies, and enhancements to existing technologies and make recommendations to the Director as appropriate.
  • Conduct periodic presentations, conference workshops, seminars, etc. on assistive technology-related topics, to promote awareness of potential AT solutions that eliminate accessibility barriers.
  • Provide support to other campus departments, such as the tutoring and testing centers, as necessary in matters relating to accessibility and assistive technology.
  • Participate in compliance and legal updates.
  • Collect and report data related to grant goals and objectives.



Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree required, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a technical support role such as I/T help desk or experience with assistive technologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Previous training and/or teaching experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Apple, Windows and Chromebook operating systems.
  • Ability to download and convert different file types.


Applicant must be available to work during business hours of Monday - Friday between 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Specific work schedule to be determined with candidate once position is filled.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the accessibility software such as Readers (Kurzweil, Read/Write), Dragon Naturally
  • Speaking, Echo Smartpen, Otter ai.
  • Ability to initiate and complete assigned tasks independently.
  • Ability to walk students through a series of actions to resolve a problem.
  • Ability to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work successfully as part of a team in a high demand, multi-tasking, detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Additional Information:
The performance of this work is primarily in-person and on-site. Flexible hours required;

Class: Administration/Dutchess United Educators

Salary Range: $26.79 per hour
