The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the Regional Manager and will work closely with the Avantor's Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Location: San Diego, CA

Shifts: 1st shift

Annual Salary: $100K - $110K

What we're looking for

Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associates degree or undergraduate degree is preferred or equivalent experience

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in experience managing associates/leadership role

Proficient interviewing skills is essential.

Six Sigma Lean Training is a plus and would be advantageous.

Valid Driver's License and transportation

Previous experience with account development and implementation is highly desirable.

Develops and maintains: SOP's, SOW's, SPI's and KPI's.

Collaboration Tool: Microsoft Teams experience preferred

  • Proficient in Information Access and ERP Systems; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Access.

  • Exhibits flexibility, adaptability, a task-oriented approach, and the ability to multitask effectively while adjusting priorities as needed.

  • Possesses a strong customer focus, both internally and externally, and has a track record of establishing high-level customer & employee relationships.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in conflict resolution, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.

  • Capable of making sound business decisions with limited consultation with managers.

How you will thrive and create an impact

Avantor's Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and direct a team of 10 associates tasked with shipping services, encompassing the handling of hazardous materials (both biological and chemical), package reception and reconciliation, as well as the transportation and distribution of goods across various facilities.

  • Supervise day-to-day operations within the shipping services department to guarantee the smooth and punctual handling of all shipments and parcels.

  • Formulate and execute standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure the safe and regulatory-compliant management of hazardous materials, adhering closely to industry regulations.

  • Coordinate with internal divisions and external collaborators to facilitate seamless transportation and distribution of goods across facilities, optimizing logistical operations.

  • Uphold adherence to pertinent regulations, standards, and protocols governing hazardous materials transportation and handling, including DOT, IATA, and OSHA guidelines.

  • Perform routine audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and procedures to detect and resolve any compliance or safety concerns.

  • Act as the primary liaison for both internal and external clientele regarding shipping services, promptly addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.

  • Collaborate closely with sales teams to grasp customer needs and preferences, devising tailored solutions to meet or surpass expectations.

  • Proactively communicate with customers on shipment statuses, any potential delays, or other pertinent information, fostering transparency and accountability.

  • Identify opportunities for process enhancement, cost reduction, and efficiency optimization within the shipping services department, spearheading initiatives for their implementation.

  • Collect and analyze data pertaining to key performance metrics, such as on-time delivery rates, error rates, and customer feedback, to drive ongoing enhancement efforts.
